Another Kent County Biker Charity Event!
“Kent County Firehouse Toy Run” – Sunday – Dec 2nd - 1PM

Ho, Ho, Ho!! Word of this just rumbled all the way up to the North Pole!!!

The Rock Hall Bike Fest Committee has organized a motorcycle ride from firehouse to firehouse in Kent County to collect toys for me to deliver to deserving Kent County boys and girls at Christmas. The run will begin at 1PM at the Betterton Firehouse and proceed to the Kennedyville Firehouse, then the Galena Firehouse, the Millington Firehouse, the Chestertown Firehouse, the Kent & Queen Anne Rescue Squad Station, and will end at the Rock Hall Firehouse. Organizers tell me, depending on weather conditions, they expect to take 15 to 20 minutes between firehalls and stop over at each hall to warm up for about 10 minutes - - they think they will be in Rock Hall between 4:00 and 4:30PM.

I’m arriving by boat in Rock Hall in the Rock Hall Boat Parade at 6PM the night before! I’ve marked my calendar to stay overnight and be at the Rock Hall Firehouse cheering them on in since I know what it’s like to travel at high speed in windy and cold weather conditions – I sure hope there is no snow – wheels don’t work as well as sleigh runners in the snow! Ho, Ho, Ho!!

Each rider will be bringing an unwrapped toy to one of the firehouses – one of my helpers is planning to follow the ride in a Santa Van to gather the toys along the way from the riders and anyone else who wants to be part of this!!! Ho, Ho, Ho!! They tell me cars and trucks are welcome to join in!!

A couple of my very special helpers, Kathy and Mike Morgan, have organized some more folks to help me sort and wrap the toys and on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day they will help me deliver them to wonderful boys and girls in Kent County!!

If you have any questions about this Toy Run, you should call my helper Jay Jacobs in Rock Hall at 410-708-0596. You can use the attached flyer in any way you want to rumble the word out further – and Rock Hall’s website info about this and my arrival Saturday evening - www.rockhallmd.com

Hope everyone joins in the run!! The more the Merrier!! Ho, Ho, Ho . . !!

BREAKING NEWS...Mr. Burgess Inducted In To Hall of Fame!

Seven inducted into K&QA's Fire, EMS & Rescue Hall
The Star Democrat October 27, 2007

The Kent & Queen Anne's Fire, EMS and Rescue Association's Hall of Fame had seven names added, including its first president, who took office when the association was formed in 1929.
The formal ceremony was held in the Galena firehouse during the October dinner meeting of the two-county association.
Hall of Fame Committee Chairman Richard Powell of Galena, a past president of the group, noted that the hall was instituted in 1990 and each year the past president is inducted along with other names approved for their dedication and service.

Burgess Tucker of Rock Hall. For 15 years he was chief at Rock Hall, and secretary for six years. He was assistant chief in charge of the ambulance service, now known as Emer-gency Medical Services. He was one of the founders of the Kent County Fire Chiefs Association. He owned a garage across the street from the firehouse. Years ago, he would take calls from the public and telephone operators, then activate the fire siren. His mother lived next door and had an "activation" button, and would blow the siren when the garage was closed.

The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company was first organized on April 27, 1927. Before the organization of the company in its present day form, all fires were fought by bucket brigades that were summoned by the ringing of the Church Bell. The first officers were Herbert A. Urie, Pres., Trew Durding, Vice Pres.; Allan Urie, Sec.; Joesph Downey, Jr.; Treas., and the directors were: William C. Francis, T. Leonard Rich, J. Robert Lewis, Thomas A. Tucker, John R. Dowling, T. Jewell Thompson, Joseph B. Davis, W.R. Rodney, Max Alexander, Harry R. Price, A. Keller, O. Cecil Crouch and Fred Williams.
Shortly after the formation, a Ladies Auxiliary was formed by Mrs. John Wood, Mrs. George Davis, Mrs. David Joiner, Mrs. Bennett Willson, Mrs. Benjamin Coleman and Mrs. Millard Rodney.
From the first formation of the Company and the Auxiliary to present day, the volunteers remain active, loyal and forever dedicated to fighting fires, rescue, community service and fund raising. Many of the current members are descendants of the original members.
